Sadbh's update - day 85
It was a busy day for Sadbh today. Between her appointment with her Osteopathic Physician and a visit to Swedish Hospital in Ballard to meet the latest edition to the gang.
As we were driving to the hospital, Princess Angry Bird made an appearance. It can be quite nerve wracking to be driving around with a mad little Sadbh in the back. Thankfully Katie was next to her to provide comfort and take care of her suctions. Lately, her temperament has been extremely good, so when she throws a wobbler like she did today, it can take us both off guard, and a little longer to get her settled back down.
By the time we arrived at the hospital, she was quite calm, and we got to spend some time meeting with her new little friend Cormac and congratulating his parents.
Tomorrow is going to be another big day for Sadbh. She has an appointment with her Occupational/Physical Therapist, and later she has her monthly appointment with Dr. Inglis, her ENT specialist. I'm hoping that he will have some good news to share with us tomorrow.

Sadbh's update - day 84 4th of July
This morning I got up at 6am to take over from the night nurse. An hour into it, I figured that it might be best if I brought Sadbh up to our bed so we could all get some well deserved rest. I propped Sadbh up on my chest and shortly afterwards, both of us were fast asleep in each others company.About an hour later, both of us woke up and I have to say, nothing beats waking up with your little baby looking right at you with a huge smile on her face. That's the way to start off every day.
Sadbh's first 4th of July was a fun day spent chatting with friends, eating food, and sleeping. Gerry, Sarah and Dylan invited us all over to theirs for a BBQ, and since their house is west facing, it was a great way to spend a day in the sun. Typically, the 4th of July is a cloudy day in Seattle, and the on going joke here is that summer doesn't actually start until the 5th. Well, this weekend was absolutely fantastic. Temperatures in the 80's (high 20'a celsius) and plenty of sun. Not very Seattle, but very welcome all the same.
Sadbh spent the first few hours sleeping along side her new friend Conor. It's amazing how these little people can sleep for so long.
Eventually it was time to wake up and catch up on the social scene at Gerry's and Sarah's.
Dylan, who is around six months old, is such the entertainer. He is a very cool little man with a happy disposition, and he sports a great hat. It has to be said, to be in Dylan's company, ones worries melt away and you tent to enjoy life to the fullest.
It's quite interesting how the dynamic has changed over the years. For ever and a day, it was all adults hanging out and having fun, now it's all about the kids. We joked today that by the time our kids will be old enough to drink, we will all be retired, and it might not be long after where they will have to take care of us.
Our good friend Suzie went into labor this morning and we just heard that they had a baby boy this evening. Congratulations Suzie, Derek and Clodagh. Sadbh can't wait to meet her newest friend.
Hope you all had a great 4th of July.

Sadbh's update - day 83
Since Sadbh was in hospital for so long, we decided to throw her a homecoming party on Sunday to celebrate her birth and arrival home.
The day started off hectic getting things prepared, but Sadbh was in a great mood the entire time. We were able to change out her trach ties earlier in the day, and she was so cooperative, it made the whole task so much easier.
Lydia came early and made a stack of great "Bahn Ni" Vietnamese sandwiches. Theresa and Orla were also a great help as they set up food platters and arrange the food and drinks.Neil even came over and helped set up the garden, balloons and the inflatable bouncy house in the neighbors garden for the bigger kids. Thanks to Charlie next door for letting us borrow his bouncy house.
Soon the garden was full with friends and many little babies. We even had to dedicate a parking area for strollers, now that's a first.
Our garden is such a beautiful place, and Sadbh seems to like all the vibrant colors. It's a perfect spot to host a homecoming party and for friends to socialize. Sadbh got to meet a few new kids her own age, she's turning into quite the socialite. To her delight, she also received a bunch of huge balloons.
Once the day was done, and we were ready to say good bye to everyone, all of a sudden, a few of our friends cleaned the house and garden allowing Katie and I a chance to relax.
We are so grateful for such great friends and neighbors.
I had a fairly intense dream last night about Sadbh and her vocal cords, at one point in the dream, out of nowhere, all of a sudden I could hear Sadbh's cry's throughout the house. I ran through the house to her room and when I arrived she recognized me and started giggling and making cooing sounds. I awoke moments later and realized that it was only a dream. I know the day will eventually come when we will get to hear her cry's and giggles. Hopefully it will be sooner rather than later.

Sadbh's update - day 82
Saturday was an extremely quiet day for Sadbh. Nothing too exciting whatsoever, and honestly, that's how we like it
She is still piling on the weight, and she is developing quite well. From early on, she has proven to have strong neck muscles and she is now able to arch her back so much, that she scoots herself out of the sleeping wedge in her cot. Since she is starting to do this, we are thinking that we should remove the wedge and place her in her cot like any other baby. This will allow her to start rolling, which is also an important part of her development. We will first have to get the green light from our respiratory therapist at Children's.
I'm sure she's not going to enjoy this so much at the start, especially since all her cuddly friends will have to leave the safe confines of her cot.

Sadbh's update - day 81
Friday was an exciting day for Sadbh. Around lunch time she and her mummy decided to pay daddy a visit at his office. What a treat it was to bring my little baby into the office and for her to meet all my colleagues. They even got to meet Princess Angry Bird a few times.
It's amazing, the pride that came over me when she came into the building. I just wanted to show her off to everyone.
Katie had dressed Sadbh up in a nice little pink and white polka dot dress for the visit. What Katie did not realize, my companies spokeswoman also wears a pink and white polka dot dress in a few of our marketing campaigns.
T-Mobile's Carly: http://androinica.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/t-mobile-carly-mytouch-4g-235x232.jpg
Carly should be concerned, there is a new girl in town, and she is so much cuter!
Later that evening, Sadbh, and the rest of us, got to meet the newest addition to the gang, Martin and Aoife's little boy Conor. He is such a cute little guy, and it was great to see the pride both his parents have.
Our replacement, stand in nurse started tonight. She seems quite experienced and gave us a lot of confidence straight away. Despite being very involved in educating new nurses on Sadbh's care, both Katie and I realized that we have to provide new and existing nurses with as much information that we can, and not assume these nurses all have the same knowledge on caring for infants with trachs. For example, we learned during the night that this new nurse was reading the depth measurements on the suction catheter incorrectly, and as a result, she was suctioning a little deeper than she should have been. Simple mistake, and fortunately, no harm done this time. I do have a printed chart next to the suction device with the depth called out, however for some reason, it is not good enough.

I know it's been a while since I've said this, and I am grateful every day, but thank you all for the continuous support. The three of us sincerely appreciate it.
Have a great weekend,

Despite being very involved in educating new nurses on Sadbh's care, both Katie and I realized that we have to provide new and existing nurses with as much information that we can, and not assume these nurses all have the same knowledge on caring for infants with trachs. For example, we learned during the night that this new nurse was reading the depth measurements on the suction catheter incorrectly, and as a result, she was suctioning a little deeper than she should have been. Simple mistake, and fortunately, no harm done this time. I do have a printed chart next to the suction device with the depth called out, however for some reason, it is not good enough.

Check back later today for more photos from Friday night.
I know it's been a while since I've said this, and I am grateful every day, but thank you all for the continuous support. The three of us sincerely appreciate it.
Have a great weekend,
Wayne, Katie and Sadbh.

Carly should be concerned, there is a new girl in town, and she is so much cuter!
