Sadbh’s update – November 4th 2012

Sadbh and Mommy slept pretty well, but when they woke up, they were both horizontal across the bed.

The clock went back an hour last night due to daylight savings time, so Sadbh’s day started earlier than usual.  Still, she slept until 8am and was in a great mood when she woke.

After breakfast, we decided to try out her trach cap.  Poppy distracted her with lots of bubbles and Sadbh wore the cap for a total of about 20 minutes.  She did great, but towards the end Katie could tell that she was struggling as her chest began to retract. It was time for a break.

Sadbh tried on her Flamenco dress and enjoyed running around the house and dancing in it.  It was quite the sight.

Trach care went well and Sadbh slept on for a while afterwards.  When she woke up, she was delighted to see that Katie’s friend Michelle was over to visit. Sadbh hadn’t seen Michelle since May, but she remembered her quickly. Sadbh grabbed her hand and was soon showing Michelle around the house.

Sadbh, Poppy, Michelle, Nana, Grandad and Katie enjoyed the afternoon catching up and playing.  Soon Daddy came home and Sadbh was thrilled to see him.  He had brought her a nice present and Sadbh spent the rest of the evening playing with it.

Katie took Poppy to the airport so that he could return to San Francisco.  Sadbh was sad to see him go and she can’t wait for his next visit.

All the best,

Sadbh’s update – November 3rd 2012

Sadbh woke up just a few minutes after Mommy got into bed and she was ready to snuggle.  She joined Mommy in bed and they slept great until just after 5am.  At that time, Sadbh was awake and ready to play.

Mommy wasn’t quite ready, though, so after a suction, a nappy change and an hour of playtime in bed, Sadbh finally fell back asleep.

Just after breakfast, Sadbh enjoyed spending some time sitting on Poppy’s lap looking at his 70th birthday photo book.  It was very special how she seemed to recognize people in the pictures and she loved hearing Poppy tell her who they all are.

The morning was spent playing inside since the weather was quite miserable.  Daddy called from Portland and Sadbh was over the moon to see him in the computer.  She kept telling him that she loved him.

After trach care and only a short nap, Sadbh was awake, but was unfortunately not too happy about it.

The afternoon plan was to go to the Pike Place Market, but instead, we spent the afternoon delivering Poppy’s rental car.

Afterwards, Poppy, Nana, Grandad, Katie and Sadbh enjoyed a lovely walk on the Alki waterfront.  Sadbh was delighted to see the water and couldn’t stop waving at everything she saw – the ferryboats, the birds, the waves, etc...  Then we saw the seal pup on the beach and, although Sadbh wanted to get closer, we stayed our distance so as not to scare the pup.

Sadbh had a good feed once she was home and then it was off to sleep.  Since her trach ties had been irritating her for much of the afternoon, Katie and Gerry tested and adjusted them just before she went up to bed.

Sadbh missed her Daddy all day and kept calling his name.  She will be so excited when he returns home tomorrow.

All the best,

Wayne, Katie and Sadbh.

Sadbh’s update – November 2nd 2012

Sadbh had a restless night and joined us in bed sometime after 3am.  Mommy suctioned once and then we all snuggled back in to bed.

Sadbh had an appointment with her cranial sacral doctor this morning.  Ali-baba came over early to help get ready.  Sadbh did very well at the appointment and Dr. Cavanaugh was very pleased.  Sadbh even wore her Passy Muir Valve during the entire session.

Afterwards, they headed home to meet nurse Caity.  Sadbh was very tired so they started the trach care routine.  Nurse Caity cleaned while Katie held Sadbh’s trach in place. Sadbh woke up just as Caity was securing the ties. Katie took over and got the ties secured, but Sadbh was awake and ready to start the afternoon.

Katie headed off to work while Sadbh had her lunch.  After lunch, Sadbh and Caity went out for a walk.  They got caught in a rainstorm, but Sadbh stayed dry and managed to have another hour-long nap.

When Katie got home from work, Sadbh was waiting by the back door.  Soon after that, Poppy, Nana and Granddad returned from Lake Chelan.  Sadbh had a wonderful time playing with them all. She made sure to get a tight hold onto Nana and Poppy’s hands and soon, they were all “Ring-a-Ring o Rosey”.

After dinner, Sadbh got to play with Poppy’s watch.  It was amazing that she knew exactly how to put it on her own wrist.

She was very tired, by the time she went to bed and she was fast asleep in no time.  Daddy is away for the weekend so Sadbh and Katie will be missing him.

All the best,

Wayne, Katie and Sadbh.

Sadbh’s update – November 1st 2012

With all the excitement of Halloween Sadbh had a very deep sleep and did not wake until 7. Her heart rate was in a very relaxed level and Larissa even had to adjust the settings on Sadbh’s oximeter so it wouldnt alarm each time her heart rate dipped down.

After breakfast Sadbh was ready to go and she got to play with Granddad, Nana and Poppy. Katie’s father arrived last night for the weekend and Sadbh got a lot of cuddles.
She was fascinated with the spider ring that she got while trick or treating last night and could not stop playing with it.

Caity was working today, so Sadbh had plenty of people to play with.
By noon she was ready for her nap so Caity and Granddad managed trach care.
Sadbh had a nice long nap and woke up around 2:30 with a huge smile on her face.
After a big lunch, Sadbh and Caity headed out into the garden and Sadbh immediately set about picking tomatoes.

Sadbh had no desire to head back into the house, even after I arrived home from work.

After Caity’s shift finished, Sadbh and I had a ball playing hide and seek, or chasing each other around the house.
At one stage she had a fit of the giggles when I surprised her and would not stop tickling her.
Things got even better once Katie arrived home.

All the best,

Wayne, Katie and Sadbh.

Sadbh’s update – October 31st 2012

It was a very long night and Sadbh was tossing and turning nonstop. She joined us in bed early on would not stop kicking and pushing.
She was definitely very uncomfortable and she was wide-awake by 5:00.
She was in a great mood when she woke up and was extremely playful.
She fell back to sleep very soon after and had herself a nice long sleep in.

Sadbh had a big appetite when she finally woke up.
Caity arrived at the start of her shift not long after breakfast, so they all headed down into the basement for a morning filled with fun and play.

Ali-Baba arrived later on with a gift for Sadbh. She brought her a lovely new bedtime book called “Goodnight Moon” and Sadbh loved it. She also brought some yummy homemade cookies for Sadbh, in which Sadbh scarfed them down very quickly.

Sadbh’s naptime came a little later than usual, probably due to her sleep in, but more than likely due to the sugar rush from the cookies.
Everything went really well and Sadbh slept for two hours.

Sadbh got to join her neighbor friends on her first ever “trick or treat” outing later in the evening. We dressed her up in a very cute ladybird outfit and off she went.
She was fascinated with all the costumes and quickly learned the art of trick or treating.

It was a lot of fun and thankfully the rain stopped shortly after we set off.
She had a great evening and scored a load of sweets that she probably will not get to eat.

Larissa is working tonight so hopefully we will all get a good night sleep.

All the best,

Wayne, Katie and Sadbh.

Sadbh’s update – October 30th 2012

All the pre-bedtime excitement must have worn Sadbh out because she slept like a log all night and did not move once. Her heart rate was in the low 90’s and even dropped down into the 60’s at one point.

Around 6:15 I received a call at work and it was Sadbh. She woke up and was asking for me while also making the sounds that I made while sniffing her feet. It made my day.

It was pouring rain all day so Sadbh spent the day indoors. She did not mind and had a great time taking turns playing with Granddad, Nana and Caity.

She was ready for her nap just before noon so it was time for her bath and trach care. Everything went well and Sadbh slept for over two and a half hours.

As soon as Sadbh was done with her afternoon nap, it was time for lunch and back down to the basement to play with her toys.
She had so much fun it did not matter how bad the weather was.

Sadbh came running up to me when I arrived home and stuck her foot into the air. It took me a second to figure out what she was doing and then I realized she wanted me to smell her feet. She was in hysterics when I sniffed and went phewwww! It was brilliant.

She had a great evening and was very playful right up to her bedtime.
Larissa has tonight off so Sadbh is upstairs with us. I’m hoping she gets another good night sleep.

All the best,

Wayne, Katie and Sadbh.

Sadbh’s update – October 29th 2012

Sadbh had a restless night and managed to kick off her humidifier hose a few times. Thankfully Larissa was all over it and had Sadbh hooked back up very quickly each time.
She slept until 6:30 and she was ready for breakfast and for the fun to begin.

It was a very wet morning so Sadbh stayed indoors playing with her toys.
She had a great time and was thrilled to make as much noise as possible.

Trach care came a little earlier than usual and everything went well until Caity was securing her trach ties. Sadbh woke up and got a little bit fussy. They were able to finish the job off as soon as they had her calmed down, but she had no interest in going back to sleep.

The weather had cleared up so Sadbh, Nana and Caity headed out for a walk up to the Seattle University campus. Sadbh walked most of the way there and since it turned out to be such a sunny day she had a lot of fun.
She finally fell asleep on the way back home and Caity was able to get her into bed without waking her up.

Granddad carved a couple of pumpkins for Sadbh while she was out for her walk.
She was fascinated with them after she woke up and could not stop checking them out.
She had a fun evening playing hide and seek and when it came time for bed we read three of her favorite books.

She wears these cute ladybird slippers around the house and they are adorable. Unfortunately, they make her feet smell so at nighttime when she goes to bed I sniff her feet and make a phew sound. She loves it and laughs hysterically. It is so funny however when it’s the only thing she wants from 8 to 9 it becomes a bit of an issue.
That said, her laughter comes from deep within and it is very heart warming to hear.

All the best,

Wayne, Katie and Sadbh.
