Sadbh’s update – March 7th 2013

Sadbh tolerated 33 minutes with her trach capped during the night and according to Larissa she remained relaxed and comfortable the first couple of times.

On the third try she got a little bit fussy but still stayed asleep.

She woke up around 6:20 and was in a very good mood.

After catching up with her favorite show, Kipper, Sadbh headed downstairs with Katie for breakfast. She had a big appetite and ate her fair share of breakfast.

When Nana joined in for breakfast Sadbh ate most of her porridge. She’s quite the cheeky monkey.

Trach care was easy today as Sadbh was very tired. She slept for almost three hours and woke up in a great mood.

Unfortunately, she missed Ali-Baba as she had stopped by while Sadbh was sleeping.

Sadbh got to meet a new potential nanny this evening but she really wanted Katie all to herself. It was very difficult for Sadbh as she had not seen Katie since this morning, however, Nana and Granddad came to the rescue and distracted Sadbh long enough for Katie and I to interview the nanny.

Granddad received a new motorcycle helmet in the post today and Sadbh was over the moon when it came out of it’s packaging. She had to try it on but after a while she must have felt claustrophobic.

Sadbh had a huge appetite for dinner and after she was done with her food she came around the table to each of us and started eating form our plates. After that she topped it off with yogurt. I have no idea where she puts it all but it’s good to see such a healthy appetite.

When it came time for bed Sadbh put on a new show with her binkys. She stuck a couple between her toes and started to do the bicycle. I have a strong feeling that she will be a performer with Cirque du Soleil when she’s older.

This morning as I packed my lunch I noticed that yet another apple had a big bruise in it. Every apple that I’ve had throughout the week has had a similar bruise and then I realized it was from Sadbh bouncing the bag of apples along the ground as she helped unload the groceries earlier in the week.

Sadbh’s update – March 6th 2013

Sadbh had a very restless night so Larissa decided not to cap her trach allowing her to sleep as comfortably as possible.

Thankfully, she slept through the night and woke up just after Larissa’s shift ended.

As usual she was thrilled to see Katie and for the fun and games to start. When she woke up, Katie mentioned to her that Ali-Baba might stop by to play.  Sadbh promptly requested for her wires, tubes and sleep sack to be removed and insisted on looking for Ali-Baba throughout the house.  Unfortunately, Ali-Baba hadn’t arrived yet, so Sadbh couldn’t find her.

Ali-Baba did stop by later in the morning, however, and Sadbh was delighted to see her. They had a great time playing and Ali-Baba wiped Sadbh out in time for trach care.

Sadbh slept for an hour and a half and woke up hungry and ready for the games to start again.

The weather was terrible so Sadbh was house bound all day. She did not seem to mind as she had so many toys out and was enjoying all of them.

After I came home from work she had me chasing her around the house. She was running like crazy and did not stop for ages. Since the hole in her trach is so small, 3mm, it was interesting to see her go for so long and not run out of breath.

After dinner Sadbh was exhausted and wanted to go to bed. It was hard to get her pajamas on as she was so floppy and wiggly, but as soon as she settled down it was not long before she was fast asleep.

She wore her trach cap for a total of 2 hours and 2 minutes throughout the day today.

Sadbh’s update – March 5th 2013

Sadbh did great during the night and wore her cap for 29 minutes in total. Her heart rate and blood oxygen levels stayed where they should have and despite getting a little bit restless she did not wake up.

By 6:20 Sadbh was wide-awake and ready to kick start her day. She was in a very good mood and could not wait for Katie to take her upstairs so she could watch her iPad as Katie got ready for work. She’s really getting used to her morning routine.

She had a wonderful morning and despite the dry weather she did not want to go out. She preferred staying inside playing with her toys.

After a very busy and fun morning Sadbh started to get tired shortly after noon and by 12:30 she was fast asleep and ready for trach care.

Granddad and Nana managed trach care and Sadbh slept soundly for a couple more hours.

Sadbh woke up in a happy mood and hungry for dinner.

Once her belly was full, it was time to head out for a walk through the neighborhood. She still did not want to leave the house so Granddad and Nana had to coax her to leave with them. They asked her if she wanted to go find “Kipper”, the little dog on the cartoon that she loves so much.

This backfired later when my folks tried to do some shopping in the local grocery store when Sadbh kept saying “outside, Kipper!” That will teach them.

She had a wonderful evening and actually wore her cap for a total of 4 hours and 20 minutes throughout the day.

Sadbh’s update – March 4th 2013

Sadbh slept well and Julie capped her trach a couple of times during the night. She woke up very happy at 6:20 and was delighted to see Katie.

After a spot of fun it was soon time for breakfast and Sadbh had a good appetite.

It was another sunny morning so after Katie left for work Granddad and Nana bundled Sadbh up nice and warm and headed out for a walk through the neighborhood. When they arrived home Sadbh got to play in the back garden and she had so much fun in the sunshine.

Sadbh wore her trach cap on and off all morning for a total of 1 hour and 36 minutes.

When it came time for trach care Sadbh was exhausted and fell asleep very quickly. Granddad and Nana managed trach care and Sadbh slept on for two hours.

She woke up in a very good mood and after lunch it was time to for the fun to continue.

The evening was spent playing with Katie and myself and Sadbh had so much fun.

By bedtime she was worn out and fell asleep really quickly.

Sadbh’s update – March 3rd 2013

Sadbh had a very good night and slept soundly until 6:15. Julie had to suction around 3 as Sadbh had a coughing fit and she fell back into a deep sleep as soon as her trach was cleared. Julie capped her trach a couple of times the first was for 10 minutes and the second was only for 5. On the second attempt Sadbh woke up pointed at her track cap and said “off!”, Julie did not need to be told a second time as she could see that Sadbh was not comfortable with the cap on.

We had a fun morning and since it was a beautiful day we headed out for a walk. Sadbh was very happy to be out and got very excited every time she spotted a bus.

Her two favorite dogs were also out enjoying the sunshine and Sadbh had to stop for a while to chat. Just as we were leaving Sadbh called out “bye dog, bye other dog”.  One of the dogs actually looked very sad to see her leave.

Our timing was perfect as Granddad and Nana were able to meet us after they were done with mass so we all went for coffee.

We figured that Sadbh would want to sit in her stroller for the trip home since she had walked most of the way to the coffee shop, however she was too happy walking and insisted on making her own way home.

Trach care was easy as Sadbh was very soon in a deep sleep after we arrived home. She slept for almost an hour and woke up very sad and upset.

We are not sure if she had a bad dream of something but she did not want to go back to sleep.

After a big lunch and some playtime, Sadbh was back in a great mood.

Sadbh’s short nap worked out well from a timing point of view as she had a play date with her friend Conor and if she kept sleeping she would have been very late. She insisted on bringing her stuffed dog, Regal, with us for the trip. Regal had to stay in the car though so we had to hide him so no one would think we had a dog locked in the car without the windows cracked open.

When we arrived at Conor’s place Sadbh was very shy. It took quite a while before the two kids started playing with each other and as soon as they did they had a ball. They were laughing their little heads off and having a wonderful time.  

Unfortunately, it was soon time to leave and you could tell that Sadbh was getting very tired.

Sadbh had a big dinner and was in a great mood. Aoife’s mom sent a lovely package of St. Patrick’s Day headbands for Sadbh and she was happy trying them out just after her dinner.

Bedtime came easy as Sadbh fell asleep in Katie’s arms in no time at all.

Julie is working again tonight so hopefully she will get to practice capping her trach a few more times again tonight.

Sadbh’s update – March 2nd 2013

Sadbh slept great and managed to tolerate 16 minutes of having her trach capped.

By 5:30 she was wide awake and having fun with Julie. When I came down just before 6 Sadbh did not want Julie to leave but had no choice since her shift was over.

She had a wonderful morning and got to catch up on her favorite cartoon, Kipper. One of the episodes had pig chewing a few different gob-stoppers and when he rolled it out on his tongue (each time with a different colored tounge), Sadbh could not stop laughing.

Overall she had a fun packed morning and when it came time for trach care she was exhausted. She slept right through and on for almost three hours.

As soon as she woke up myself and Granddad loaded up the car and headed up to Lynnwood for a motorcycle exhibit. Sadbh was delighted to be out of the house and at first she was happy to see all the bikes. She did get a little scared later on but found a couple of bikes that she liked and was happy checking those out. It did not take long for Sadbh to get bored but she did find some really cool paintings on the wall that she insisted on checking out.

The drive home was long due to really bad traffic, however Granddad kept Sadbh well entertained the whole way home.

Katie and Nana arrived home not long after us and Sadbh was quick to tell them that the motorcycles scared her. She did pull out the catalogue for Ducati and showed us all the bikes that she liked as well. Happens to be the one I like too.

When it came time for bed we put on the trach cap to see how well she would handle it going to sleep. She did ok but eventually her heart rate started to climb and she felt uncomfortable so we took it off. After that she fell asleep really quickly.

She had a fantastic day and both Granddad and I had fun being able to bring her to the bike show.

Sadbh’s update – March1st 2013

Sadbh slept much better last night although she was a little bit wheezy.

Julie tried to cap Sadbh’s trach once but Sadbh got very restless and even started to de-sat so Julie took the cap off and after replacing it with her trach guard Sadbh fell back into a nice comfortable sleep.

She started to wake up at 5:30 and immediately started to ask for Katie. As soon as Katie popped her head in the door, Sadbh’s eyes lit up and she gave Katie a huge smile.

Sadbh’s day was off to a good start.

Caity was feeling much better so she was able to work today. Sadbh was happy to see her.

It was a cloudy day but Sadbh was able to go out into the garden to play. She was very happy exploring and it helped tire her out for her early afternoon nap.

Trach care went well and Sadbh slept right through. Her neck has been getting very irritated over the past few days so Granddad put on a little more Nystatin powder to ease the discomfort.

Sadbh slept for 3 hours and woke up with a huge appetite. She ate for an hour before her belly was full.

Afterwards she was very playful and since she had so much energy to burn everyone got a chance to join in on the fun.

All evening Sadbh tried to convince each of us to take a shower so she could watch her iPad. She even started to gather her dog and other props so she would be ready if anyone agreed. It was way too funny.

Before bedtime Sadbh got to Skype with her cousins in Hong Kong. She could not wait to show off her little school bus and when she started talking to them they were all very impressed.

She even had everyone in the house running being chased by her cousins.

By the time Sadbh was ready for bed, she could barely keep her eyes open.  She fell asleep easily and we’re hoping she’ll sleep well tonight.
