Sadbh’s update – August 7th 2013

It was a whirlwind of a morning getting all of Sadbh’s equipment loaded into the car. Sadbh took it all in stride as she was excited to be going to visit the dentist.
For the last few weeks Katie had been working with Sadbh on practicing opening her mouth really wide and showing off her teeth.

Well the dentist visit went great and Sadbh impressed everyone. When asked how old she was she answered “Um… I’m 5”.  When the dentist was done, he said “Wow, she did that better than most 5 yr olds”.  Katie reminded him that Sadbh had told him she was 5.

Sadbh’s teeth are in great shape and she has a couple new molars coming down.

After returning home she wasn’t so happy especially after mommy left for work.
Larissa prepared her some food and Sadbh proceeded to wolf it down like there was no tomorrow.

She had a short nap and woke up very upset. Larissa did her best to comfort her.
When she cheered up they headed out for something to eat and for the fun and games to continue.

She had a fun evening and helped me package up her medical supplies and equipment as we are heading away for the weekend tomorrow after work.

Sadbh’s update – August 6th 2013

Sadbh talked a lot in her sleep last night and evidentially was asking after me quite a bit. At one point when Helen capped her trach she woke up, pulled the cap off and said “Cap off, Helen. Cap off.”

She was a little sad when mommy left for work. She really wanted to go for a walk so Larissa and Sophia got all the equipment set up and they all headed out.
She had a great time out and walked most of the way to Madrona. Larissa picked a park that was less crowded but unfortunately for Sadbh it did not have any swings or slides. She immediately showed her disapproval and said, “no, this is not it, no!”

They had a fun time anyway and by the time Sadbh arrived home she was ready for her nap.

It was a very exciting evening as it was the annual neighborhood block party.
All the neighbors were out so Sadbh had plenty of kids to play with.
Things got very exciting when a fire truck pulled up and Sadbh couldn’t believe her luck when mommy hopped up into the passenger seat with Sadbh on her lap.

By the time we were done with the block party it was past Sadbh’s bedtime so we headed home and got her ready for trach care.
Thankfully we managed trach care before bed this evening, as her neck was filthy from watermelon and sweat.

Sadbh’s update – August 5th 2013

Sadbh slept great and woke up shortly after 7.
As soon as Larissa arrived Sadbh greeted her and asked to go outside. It was a beautiful day so there was no good reason not to.

Sadbh sat at her little table on the back porch and enjoyed her second breakfast.
As soon as she was done eating it was time to head out for a walk through the neighborhood and Sadbh was delighted when Sophia joined them.
They had a great time out walking. Sadbh took a stumble at one point and thankfully Sophia grabbed her before she landed on her knees. She did scrape her hand but all in all she faired well.

Naptime came a little later than usual and Sadbh slept for two and a half hours. She woke up just as I arrived home from work and she was in a fantastic mood.
She could not stop talking about the parade that she saw over the weekend and was describing how the low rider cars kept tripping since they were driving on three wheels rather than four. She thought it was so funny.

We had a great evening searching for spiders in the garden. Sadbh had a great time exclaiming how scared she was every time we saw one.

Trach care went well and Sadbh watched some new show about a little boy, a mouse and a toy motorcycle. She was fixated.

Katie’s battle with the insurance company paid off and we were able to get the denial overturned until December 31ST.
Come November we will start the process all over again, thankfully this time we know what to expect so we will not be take by surprise.

All the best,

Sadbh’s update – August 4th 2013

Sadbh woke up shortly after 7 after a great night sleep and in a very happy mood.
She wanted mommy so we headed upstairs for a snuggle.

We had another busy day showing Sophia around Seattle. After trach care we loaded up the car and headed over to Ballard to check out the Sunday farmers market.
The rest of Seattle must have had the same idea as it was packed. It was fun and thankfully Sadbh had no problem hanging out in her stroller as we walked through the crowds.
Once we got to the end of the street there were a couple of drummers busking and Sadbh wanted to go dance to the beat.
She was totally memorized with the sounds and did her best to keep up.

Next we headed over to the Ballard locks and just like the market it was packed with sightseers.
There were all sorts and sizes of boats and ships going through the locks.
The fish ladder was teaming with salmon and Sadbh was so impressed.

The rest of the evening was spent playing at home with Sophia.

Sadbh’s update – August 3rd 2013

Sadbh slept great and did not wake until 7:30. When we brought her to our bed she got very cozy with mommy and would not let me in. She wanted mommy all to herself but soon made up for it by giving me a huge hug and a few kisses.

She had a fantastic morning playing with Katie and Sophia.  The ladies went to the coffee shop around the corner and had delicious waffles. She was quite exhausted when it came time for her nap.
Katie and I managed trach care but despite being so tired she did not want to go to sleep.

There was a parade celebrating African Heritage a block away from the house so Katie and Sadbh joined in on the celebrations.
It was fantastic and Sadbh got to see a fire engine up close, some tricked out low riders, one that was driving on three wheels, a marching band and drill team.
It was very exciting and Sadbh was in her element with all the action.

After that we went for a spin in the car and Sadbh passed out as soon as she was buckled in. She slept for an hour and a half and when she woke up we headed over to Wallingford to get some dinner.

It had turned out to be a beautiful day so we headed down to Golden Gardens to check out the beach.
I have never seen the beach so full before and Sadbh was desperate to get into the sand.
Obviously this is a big no no for a trach so we headed over to the field so she could run and have fun there.

Sadbh was wiped out tonight so bedtime did not take too long.

All the best,

Sadbh’s update – August 2nd 2013

Sadbh slept a little better but still no luck wearing her trach cap.

It was a very gray and damp morning but Sadbh really wanted to play outside. Larissa tried to make breakfast as quickly as possible however she unfortunately chose porridge that took half an hour to make.
When Sadbh saw the porridge she started to ask for Gerdie and talked about eating the porridge. This was a morning ritual my dad and Sadbh had when he was here over the past couple of years.

She had a big hearty breakfast but by the time she was done it was already raining so she was house bound for the rest of the day.

Nevertheless she and Larissa had a great morning playing and getting creative with her crayons and coloring paper.

She had a restless nap and woke up a number of times throughout.

After a huge lunch she spent the afternoon playing with doctor and managing trach care on her dolls.
I was able to get off work a little earlier than usual so Larissa and I managed trach care with Sadbh.
She did not want us to do trach care so after a little coaxing she finally gave in. I basically told her that it would make mommy very happy if we were able to do trach care and with that she agreed and allowed us to take care of business.

Thankfully everything went well and we finished up just in time for Larissa’s shift to end.
Sophia arrived home a few minutes later and both girls had a great time playing ghosts.

Sadbh received her US passport today so now she can officially travel internationally. However we have to wait until she is trach free before we can actually go anywhere.

The rest of the evening was spent cuddling on the couch and watching The Sound of Music. Sadbh loves all the songs and was happy singing along.
I on the other hand am not a fan but I really enjoy listening to Sadbh’s sweet voice.

Bedtime was very cute as Sadbh was full of hugs, kisses and “I love yous”’.

All the best,

Wayne, Katie and Sadbh.

Sadbh’s update – August 1st 2013

Sadbh was very restless again last night and finally fell into a deep sleep around 3.
By 7:15 she was awake and very chatty.

She had a great day with Larissa and Mariana and got to head out for a nice long walk. There is a community arts center a couple of blocks away and as they passed they could see a few young kids welding in the yard. Sadbh was fascinated and kept talking about the fireworks.

Her nap was only for an hour and a half but she woke in a very good mood.

Katie and I managed trach care not long after we arrived home from work and afterwards we headed up to Capitol Hill for dinner.
Sadbh was delighted to be out and had a healthy appetite. She bopped along to the music and was a great source of entertainment for everyone close by.

Bedtime was so easy tonight and after a few big hugs and cuddles she was soon fast asleep.

All the best,

Wayne, Katie and Sadbh.
