Sadbh’s update – November 18th 2012

Sadbh had a great night sleep and joined us in bed at 4am. Thankfully she went right back to sleep, but only after we had suctioned her trach a few times.
She slept until 8:30, which was great since we all got a chance to sleep in.

She was in a great mood when she woke up so we headed downstairs for breakfast and to get ready for the day.

Katie’s friend, Christina, stopped by for a visit this morning and Sadbh was full of smiles.
She showed off all her stuffed toys and a few of her dolls.
When Christina was about to head off, Sadbh gave her a big kiss and waved good-bye out the window.

Her exciting morning got the better of her and she was exhausted when it came time for her nap.
She had a lot of fun splashing in her bath and fell fast asleep as soon as she was dried off and in her pajamas.

Trach care went well and we could tell that the sores on her neck were starting to heal.
Sadbh slept on for over two hours after we were done and woke up with a big appetite.

Later in the afternoon our friend Sophie stopped by with her son Felix and daughter Vivienne. Sadbh was delighted and immediately started to hug and cuddle Vivienne.
Both she and Felix had fun playing with puzzles and later on they wore each other out chasing and playing hide and seek.
Sadbh really enjoyed her play date and despite being quite a few years older, Felix was so gentle and kind to Sadbh.

Just before bed I called Sadbh over for a kiss and to my surprise she walked right over and gave me her cheek to kiss. She is quite the little diva, that’s for sure.

At bedtime she wanted to take as many stuffed toys with her to bed and she even wanted to wear her sun hat. It was comical.
Just before she dropped off to sleep she had a full on conversation with Katie about the fun she had with Felix and she kept talking about baby Vivienne. She was obviously happy that she got to spend time with her friends.

Larissa is working tonight so Sadbh is sure to get a good night sleep.

Sadbh’s update – November 17th 2012

Sadbh slept surprisingly well despite being upstairs with us and only woke up a couple of times.
She joined us in bed sometime after 5am and by 7 she was wide-awake and ready to get up.

Sadbh got to watch Sesame Street after breakfast and was intrigued with Oscar the grouch.
After she was done with the telly it was time to play hide and seek.
Nana and Granddad joined in on the fun and Sadbh had a very fun morning.

Trach care was a little later than usual and Sadbh slept right through it.
She had a few sores around her neck so we dressed them and secured her trach tie.
Despite being in a deep sleep she flinched every time we touched one of her sores.  She even said “owwa” out loud once.  It is heartbreaking to see those sores under the trach ties on her little neck.

Unfortunately, she woke up as soon as she was placed into her bed so it was back downstairs and time for lunch.

It was a very wet afternoon so we headed off to Northgate Mall and hoped that Sadbh would fall asleep along the way.
No such luck and shortly after we arrived she wanted to get out of her stroller.
We bumped into my friend Jen and Sadbh got very shy although I think she was preoccupied with trying to figure out a way to get out of her stroller.
Later on when we finally gave in we noticed that her trousers were down below her bum due to all the wriggling.
She was fascinated with all the shoe shops at the mall and she tried her best to go into each and every one of them.
Obviously I need to find other exciting things to do with Sadbh on wet days other than going to the mall.

We even bumped into Granddad, Nana and Ali-Baba up at the mall and Sadbh could not stop smiling. It was hilarious as she was using her camera pose smile.

She finally fell asleep on the trip home so we had to be as gentle as possible when taking her out of the car. She did not stay asleep for long and was soon wide-awake and full of energy again.

Since she had such a late nap, it was 9pm before she finally fell asleep.

All the best,

Sadbh’s update – November 16th 2012

Sadbh was fairly restless during the night and had Katie awake quite a bit. She joined us in bed for a short while around midnight, but then we were able to put her back in her cot for another few hours.
Sadbh and Katie had a nice sleep in after I left for work. Sadbh was drooling like crazy so I imagine she has another tooth coming in.

She was awake by 7am and ready for the day to start.
As soon as she arrived downstairs it was time for breakfast and after her belly was full the fun and games started.

Sadbh did not have a nurse working today so Ali-Baba came over to help out for trach care.

As soon as I arrived home I could hear Sadbh calling for me. I went down into the basement and she pointed at the step next to her and said “down” and then she gave me a hug.
I had a very stressful day at work and was feeling like crap by the time the day was done. Sadbh did a fantastic job at getting me over this and improving my mood.

Sadbh’s update – November 15th 2012

Sadbh slept great and woke up shortly after Larissa’s shift ended at 6.
She was in a great mood and very playful when she woke up and was in no hurry for breakfast.

It was a fun morning and since the sun was shining Sadbh got to head out with her team for a walk through the neighborhood. Ali-Baba stopped by shortly after Sadbh arrived home and Sadbh was thrilled to see her. Ali-Baba brought her a nice craft basket and a few books and Sadbh was delighted with herself.

When it came time for trach care, Ali-Baba helped out by giving Sadbh a bath. Sadbh dropped off to sleep shortly after being bundled up in her nice warm pajamas so Granddad and Caity got to work on trach care. Everything went well however Sadbh woke up just as they finished up.

Sadbh did not have an appetite after her nap so they all headed out for a walk up to Capitol Hill. Sadbh enjoyed being out and had no interest in napping in her stroller.

I arrived home to a very energetic happy little girl. She was so full of hugs and kisses and when I asked her to smile for a photo, she turned around and         gave me a big smile, just long enough for me to take the photo and she was off about her business again.

By the time Katie arrived home she was beyond tired so we fed her dinner and got her ready for bed.
She wasn’t having any of it and was very upset.
It did not take long for her to nod off into a deep sleep.

Sadbh’s update – November 14th 2012

Sadbh slept great and woke up at 5am looking for Katie. When I popped my head into her room around 5:30, Sadbh was sitting nice and cozy in Larissa’s lap and they were both watching Sesame Street on Larissa’s laptop.
Thanks to Larissa Sadbh was very happy when Katie came down at 5:45.

Her morning was filled with fun and excitement. After breakfast she received a visit from the nursing supervisor to be recertified and Sadbh charmed her as usual.

Despite being up so early, she was full of energy and was not ready for her nap until 12:30.
Trach care went well and Sadbh slept for over two hours.

After lunch Granddad and Caity capped Sadbh’s trach and she tolerated it for the first time in a few days and lasted a total of 8 minutes before she started to struggle.

She had so much energy throughout the rest of the evening and she had a great time playing in the evening.
When it came time for bed she was still in a great mood and did not put up a fight.
We noticed that her trach tie was loose so Katie and I laid her down to tighten it up. It was like she understood what we had to do and rather than put up a fight she just lay there and allowed us to take care of business.

All the best,

Wayne, Katie and Sadbh.

Sadbh’s update – November 13th 2012

Granddad watched over Sadbh last night until Larissa’s shift started. She woke up moments before Larissa started. As Larissa walked in the door she said, “silly Sadbh, it’s time for sleep. With that Sadbh knew the drill and dropped back down to sleep.
She slept great for the rest of the night and woke up just after Larissa’s shift ended.

It was a cold went morning so it was a perfect opportunity to stay in her pajamas. She had a big breakfast and was delighted when Caity arrived.

Later in the morning the weather cleared up long enough for Sadbh and her gang to go for a quick walk around the neighborhood. She was getting tired and had no interest in walking, so she had to be carried the whole time.

As soon as she arrived home it was time for trach care. Everything went well and Sadbh slept for almost three hours afterwards.

She was in a great mood when she woke up and was eager to play.
The weather did not let up so Sadbh was housebound for the rest of the day.

We got to interview a potential night nurse today and both Katie and I feel that she has what it takes to look after Sadbh. She will hopefully cover the nights that Larissa does not work, allowing Sadbh to get a good night sleep 7 nights a week.
Both Katie and I have always insisted that we would not have nursing coverage on the weekends since we wanted to have some form of normalcy in our lives. However since Sadbh’s sleeping suffers on the weekends, we feel it’s a necessary compromise and Sadbh should benefit greatly.

All the best,

Wayne, Katie and Sadbh.

Sadbh’s update – November 12th 2012

Shortly after midnight we were awoken to a miniature Darth Vader standing up in her cot, breathing noisily through her trach looking for Katie to pick her up so she could join us in bed. Katie was quick and got Sadbh back to sleep in her cot.
She didn’t stay for long and within a couple of hours we were in the presence of mini Darth Vader for the second time.
This time she joined us in bed and after that neither of us were able to get a good night sleep.

At one stage we woke up due to Sadbh’s noisy breathing and decided to suction her trach. It helped her situation but it unfortunately woke her up. Sadbh got very upset when Katie left the room to go to the bathroom and kept calling after her. I tried to console her and thought it was working when she turned around, crawled across the bed and climbed up to me.
I realized that I assumed wrong when I received a big slap across the face.

Despite the rough night, Sadbh got to sleep in until 8am and woke up in a good mood.

Caity worked today so Sadbh could not wait to get down to the basement to play with her toys.
She had a great morning and was ready for her nap around 12:30.
After trach care Sadbh slept until 2:30 and woke up very happy indeed.

The weather wasn’t so good so Sadbh stayed indoors with the exception of going out into the garden for a while and she loved it.

Later in the evening she found one of her panties and tried to put it on. It was so funny and thankfully we were able to capture it on video.

All the best,

Wayne, Katie and Sadbh.
