Sadbh’s update – July 8th, 2012

It was yet another rough night sleep for poor Sadbh and she needed suctioning throughout the night.
She was wide-awake by 6:40, and thankfully she was in a great mood. I can’t say the same for Katie and me.
She was very lovey-dovey and was full of kisses and hugs.

It was an early start to the day and after breakfast Sadbh had a serious coughing fit. She got very sick and threw up everything she ate.

After a long morning of playing and having fun, it came time for her nap and trach care. Since we were scheduled to change out Sadbh’s trach for a new one last weekend, but had to reschedule since she was sick, we decided to change it out today.
Everything went well and Sadbh was in a deep sleep throughout. She did gag and get upset for a brief moment when I inserted the new trach, but she fell back to sleep within seconds.
No matter how many times I’ve had to change out her trach, and no matter how ready I am, mentally and physically, I cannot help but feel sick to my stomach as soon as we are finished with it.
Today was no exception and I felt weak and nauseous immediately afterwards.

Sadbh started coughing when we were securing her trach ties and ended up waking herself up. She was still very tired but her coughing was very intense.  We ended up in the bathroom for 20-30 minutes of steam to help soothe her.
After she calmed down and started to feel better, we headed out to Madison Valley for lunch.
Sadbh was thrilled to be out in the fresh air. Other than when she was coughing, her mood was fantastic. It seems that her new front teeth were not bothering her as much anymore.

After lunch she dozed off during our walk home and she had a good nap for at least an hour or so.

Sadbh spent the afternoon with Clodagh and a few of our friends out boating on the lake.
Ian’s daughter, Claire and her husband Ryan were in town visiting from Oklahoma and Sadbh got a chance to show off her boat driving skills.
It was so funny to see how tight of a grip she had on the steering wheel and she looked like she knew what she was doing.

When we arrived home, Sadbh had dinner and then it was time for bed. She had a couple of coughing fits, but fortunately she kept everything down.

Larissa is working tonight so we know that we will all get a good night sleep.

All the best,

Wayne, Katie and Sadbh.
