Sadbh’s update – April 24 2017
Katie stopped off to visit Sadbh’s school nurse
this morning to give her an update on the concussion. It was agreed that Sadbh
was to take it easy on the playground and refrain from PE activities. The nurse
then sent an email to the teachers and playground monitors explaining the
procedure.
This worked for the first few hours and then I
got the call. During recess Sadbh was watching her friends swinging on the
parallel bars and decided to join it. Unfortunately, she knocked her head on
the bars and had to visit the nurse’s office. Sadbh complained of blurred
vision in her left eye so the nurse called me to come collect her.
We contacted her pediatrician to see if we should
bring her in. After discussing everything with her pediatrician’s office they
figured that she was ok to stay at home and rest up for the remainder of the
day.
Sadbh is not one for taking it easy so by
evening time we were all exhausted. Thankfully she did not experience any
further issues.

Sadbh’s update – April 22 2017
Sadbh slept like a log and woke up shortly
after 7. She was not a happy camper when she realized that she slept between
Katie and me and for the next hour or so she was quite grumpy.
She seems to be doing better and it looks like
her bump has not gotten any worse. This is a good sign and hopefully the concussion
should not be much more of an issue. That said she still needs to take it easy
for the next week.

Sadbh’s update – April 21 2017
I received a call from the school nurse shortly
after 1pm today letting me know that Sadbh fell in the playground and bumped
her head. She had a little swelling but seemed to be ok. She advised that we
keep our eyes peeled for any signs of concussion.
Sadbh was in a great mood when I collected her
a short time later and spent the rest of the evening having a wonderful time
playing with Cillian.
We had dinner plans to celebrate our friend,
Suzie’s, birthday so we had the sitter come and explained to her what had
happened and what to look out for.
A couple of hours later it seems that Sadbh was
displaying some symptoms so Katie headed home first to make sure everything was
ok. Twenty minutes later I got the call to come home and about half way home we
decided that it would be best for Sadbh to head to the ER for a proper check.
Children’s eventually got us admitted and
within an hour the doctor had determined that she had a concussion and that she
would need to take it easy for the next week to allow her brain to recover.
