Sadbh's update - day 51

Tonight is the last night for Sadbh at the Children's Spa and recreational center.

I hope she's not going to expect the same treatment when she gets home.

The medical equipment rental company came through after all, and delivered the majority of her equipment to the house this evening. The balance is being shipped overnight for delivery in the morning.

One final test that Sadbh had to pass is the car seat test. For this test, Sadbh is placed in her car seat for ninety minutes and every thirty minutes the nurses checks her vitals. If she maintains for the duration of the test without failing on any of her vitals, she passes and is free to be discharged, when ready. She passed with flying colors, but that was to be expected.

I forgot to mention that Dr. Inglis stopped by yesterday with his bronchoscope to see if there were any improvements, and unfortunately her vocal cords are very much the same as they were the last time he looked. No worries though, we have plenty of time for her cords to heal, especially now that she's going home.

Sadbh is going to be famous. Robin, who is our amazing Occupational Therapist/Physical Therapist, was extremely impressed with Sadbh's ability to latch and breast feed, despite having a trach. As a result, she wanted to video record Sadbh's feeding for a training video that she is creating as part of a study on tracheotomy and breast feeding. Today was Sadbh's big day in front of the camera, and from what I've been told, she did a fantastic job. Until she broke some serious wind, on camera. I'm sure she was meant to be a boy.

Anyway, I cannot believe that tonight is the last night and that we will get to bring our princess home tomorrow. While we are both delighted that this day has come, we are also quite nervous for what's to come. That said, we are well trained, and know that we take this next challenge on.

Thanks again for all the well wishes, prayers and positive thoughts.

Wayne, Katie and Sadbh.

  1. So happy that the homecoming is soon. It's natural to be nervous, but I am sure you will get comfortable with it all quickly! Your daughter gets prettier every day, love to see her express herself.

All the best to the three of you!
