Sadbh's update - day 52 Home at last!!!

We are home!!

I received word from Katie around noon, that we officially had the green light to leave anytime, so we decided to give Sadbh one more bath and to clean and change out her trach ties before leaving the hospital. I'm glad we did as it got extremely hectic once we walked out the door.

Traffic on the way home was completely insane and it took us forever, we even had to suction Sadbh's trach along the way, fortunately Katie was able to put her training to practice and all was good with the world.

Once we arrived at home, we set about getting Sadbh settled in and comfortable.

Shortly after getting settled in, the nursing representative stopped by to go over paperwork, policies, and procedures. Fun times.

Following that meeting, the equipment rental rep stopped by to deliver and train us on using an apnea and respiration monitor. All the while, both Katie and I were still trying got get everything organized and set up. Before we knew it, it was almost 10pm, and neither one of us had eaten.

Our first nurse arrived on time to start the 10pm to 6am shift. We were prepared as much as we thought we could be, for the living with nurses scenario, but I have to admit, this is not going to be easy whatsoever. It's quite difficult to hand your child off to someone you only just met. I know everything is going to be fine, but this is not how it's supposed to be, and as a result, it's very hard to accept.

I did manage to give Sadbh a quick tour of her new home, and it was such a delight to see how alert and intrigued she was.

Even though we hit a huge milestone today, and we have a lot to be proud of, it was a very stressful and emotional day.

We want to thank all the great staff at Children's for all the care, compassion and love they provided Sadbh over the last seven and a half weeks.

Take care,

Wayne, Katie and Sadbh.
