Sadbh’s update – September 21- 2015
Sadbh had serious strider all night and her breathing
was very loud. I hooked her up to her oximeter to keep an eye on her blood
oxygen level and thankfully she stayed above 98% all night. It was hard to hear
her breathing that loudly and I did not get much sleep as a result.
Despite this she woke up rested and she could not
wait to get out the door to school.
Cillian and I dropped her to school and as soon as
she was in the door she was off to play with her new friends. She told me earlier
in the morning that I would have a heavy heart when I dropped her off and she
was very right. She looked so happy playing with her new classmates and she
hardly noticed when Cillian and I left.
She was still in an excellent mood when I picked her
up in the early afternoon and once home and fed she fell into a deep sleep for
an hour and a half. It was good to see her resting after a busy morning.

Sadbh’s update – September 18 2015
Sadbh started pre-school today and she could not get
out the door fast enough. She has been looking forward to this day for a very
long time and now that she is trach free she get’s to go.
We had met with her teachers last week and earlier
this week to go over Sadbh’s medical condition and to assess if this school was
a good fit based on hygiene and care from the staff.
Apart from the obvious educational, social and
developmental benefits from attending school we also have to start to slowly
introduce germs and colds to help boost Sadbh’s immune system.
Sadbh’s teachers invited me to join in for the first
day of classes to observe and to provide any feedback that may benefit their
program to care for their students, specifically Sadbh.
Sadbh had an absolutely amazing day. I’ve never seen
her smiling so much and for so long. She was in her element and I was so proud
as she listened attentively and did everything the teachers asked of her. I only wish she behaved the same way at
home.
Even though it was only for four hours it was a long
day for Sadbh and she was exhausted by the time we got home. Despite this she
did not slow down and she was on the go for the rest of the day.
It took a while to get her to bed but soon she was
sound asleep but not before asking how many more days until she could go to
school again.

Sadbh’s update – September 14 2015
Sadbh had her follow up appointment with Dr. Inglis
today and he was very happy with her progress. He wants to keep her stoma open
until the spring as a precaution but he honestly feels that she will not need to
have her trach placed back in.
He did give us the green light to end using the
Oximeter every night while Sadbh sleeps and she no longer needs her emergency
bag either.
Tonight will be Sadbh’s first night, ever, not having
to be connected to any form of medical equipment.
Our next appointment will be at the end of February
and at that point he will determine if we can close up her stoma or not.
Sadbh got to spend most of last week with two of her
cousins from New Zealand as they made their way back to Ireland on holiday. She
had a wonderful time playing and getting to know Zoe and she doted over Mia,
who is only 2 months old. She, along with the rest of us, also enjoyed spending
time with Trish and Dan and we all miss them terribly now that they have left.
Since Sadbh is now trach free we have enrolled her in
pre-school. She got to meet her teachers last Friday and she is so eager to
start next week. This is going to be good for her, as she really wants to
learn.
