Today marked Sadbh’s
six-month anniversary of being trach free. What a difference these past six
months have been compared to previously when she needed the trach to be able to
breathe.
She’s been able to go to
school where she is doing great in her academic and social skills. She does not
require the constant medical attention and Katie and I no longer have to carry
her two emergency bags everywhere Sadbh goes. Both these bags weigh 35 lbs.
combined.
Sadbh’s next appointment
with Dr. Inglis is in a couple of weeks and we hope to find out if he is
satisfied with her progress enough to close up the stoma in her neck.
Despite all this progress,
Sadbh often has a tough time breathing and her voice is a lot quieter than it
was prior to the last laser cordotomy where they cut a notch in her vocal cord.
Once her stoma is closed up
she will be able to learn how to swim and will be able to partake in a lot more
activities that having an open airway prevents her from.
All the best,
Wayne, Katie, Sadbh and
Cillian
