Sadbh’s update – March 21 2016
Sadbh has been doing a lot
better over the last few days so she started back at school today. She could
not wait to get out the door this morning and she was so happy to see all her
classmates as soon as she walked in the door of the school.
She had a fantastic day and
cannot wait to get back tomorrow.

Sadbh’s update – March 16 2016
Sadbh has been doing a lot
better over the past few days. Her secretions are still causing her congestion
and her stridor at night is still loud.
Since she is finally well we
decided that she should go back to school tomorrow. Her teacher, Andrea, has
been great in looking after Sadbh while in school and keeping us updated on any
serious colds or issues.
Today she notified us that
there is a suspected case of foot and mouth in the school so we have decided to
keep Sadbh home for another few days until we get the all clear.

Sadbh’s update – March 12 2016
Sadbh had a great night and
slept like a log.
She seems to be on the road
to recovery however she did have a fever and a lot of secretions so we gave her
some Ibuprofen to help her stay comfortable.
By midday Sadbh was
exhausted so she took a nap. She must have been completely wrecked because she
slept for over three hours and we eventually had to wake her up as it was
getting late in the day and we wanted to make sure she would be able sleep
through the night.
Sadbh’s best friend, Ellie
Bea, stopped by with a get well card, flowers and a bag of goodies. Sadbh was
over the moon after she woke up and saw the sweet gift from her bestie.
She was out of it for the
rest of the evening and was tired when it came time for bed.

Sadbh’s update – March 11 2016
Sadbh had a coughing fit
free night and her blood oxygen level was perfect. Unfortunately, she woke up
in pain at 3am and it took us an hour to get her calmed down. She was
complaining of a sore ear and was in such pain that she had difficulty
breathing. We gave her oxygen until we were able to give her Tylenol to help
ease the pain.
It took an hour or so to get
her back to sleep and when we all got up in the morning she was still
exhausted.
She did not have an appetite
and soon wanted to go back to bed.
Later in the morning she
woke up hyperventilating and insisted on getting oxygen. Her ear was bothering
her again but this time her blood oxygen was normal. Despite this she was
having major chest compressions and it took both Katie and I to hold her down
so we could give her some more pain medicine.
Katie had contacted Sadbh’s
pediatrician earlier in the morning and made an appointment for the early
afternoon.
Since Cillian was still sick
Katie stayed home with him and I brought Sadbh in to have her ears checked.
By now she was in a great
mood and was feeling much better.
We had to wait a while
before Dr. Hathaway was available and as soon as she looked into Sadbh’s ears
she could tell that one was infected. It was a result of the infection that she
got earlier in the week.
Dr. Hathaway wrote a
prescription for antibiotics and soon we were on our way.
Sadbh had a relaxing evening
and by dinnertime she fell asleep at the table. She was exhausted.
Our friends, Emmanuelle and
Claudio and their kids, Luna and Cora dropped off dinner for us along with a
tasty treat and some gifts for Sadbh. It was such a thoughtful, generous and
yummy surprise and it meant a lot to us.

Sadbh’s update – March 10 2016
Last night was much the
same, lots of coughing fits and her blood oxygen dipping down into the low
90’s.
We used oxygen and a saline
nebulizer to help keep her as stable and as comfortable as possible.
Just when we thought we had
everything under control the coughing would start up again. It would typically
last for ten to fifteen minutes and then quite for five or so minutes.
Eventually we had to give
her Tylenol but she freaked out and started to desat again. It took a while to
calm her down and this seemed to help out.
By morning we were all
exhausted. Neither of the kids had much of an appetite for breakfast. Soon
Sadbh’s coughing fits started up again.
She refused to take the
nebulizer and after a couple of melt downs she finally realized that it’s either
us taking care of her or the doctors and nurses at Children’s hospital taking
care of her.
After this realization, she
was the best patient ever for the rest of the day.
By bedtime both kids were
completely exhausted so we gave them a bath and got them ready for bed.
Cillian passed out as soon
as he was placed in his cot.
We gave Sadbh another saline
nebulizer and she fell asleep on the couch with it in her mouth.
