Today marks the one year
anniversary of Sadbh having her trach removed. Despite still having an open
stoma in her neck she has been able to lead a somewhat more normal life since
then.
We still have to be very
careful to keep her healthy and free from serious colds since she still has a
restricted airway. However having her trach removed has allowed her to be able
to go to school and to participate in activities that she could not experience
in the past.
It has not been easy as she
does have difficulty breathing when she is upset and there are nights while she
is sleeping where she has to work hard to breath.
Sadbh’s next visit with Dr.
Inglis is next week to go over her latest sleep study results. Dr. Inglis will have
a better idea of what Sadbh’s next steps are and we are hoping that he is
confident enough to close up her stoma.
Katie and I are fine if her
stoma stays open for a while longer, however we are nervous that Dr. Inglis might
recommend that we open up her vocal cords further which would also damage her
voice.
Sophia has been visiting us
from Germany for the past month and both Sadbh and Cillian have been so excited
to have her around. They love her so
much.
Unfortunately, she had to
return home this morning and she left the house before the kids woke up.
As expected, as soon as both
kids were awake they was asking non-stop for Sophia. They can’t wait for her to
return although they will have to wait until next summer when she finishes
school. We hope she will come again to
visit us then!
All the best,
Wayne, Katie, Sadbh and
Cillian
