Sadbh’s update – September 15th, 2012

Sadbh slept well and only needed suctioning a couple of times. She woke around 3:30 and joined us in bed for the rest of the night.
By 7 I felt the usual kicking in my back and I knew it was time to get up.
Sadbh was in a great mood so we heading down stairs for breakfast. Katie made French toast and Sadbh devoured it.

Afterwards we headed out for a walk and up to the playground in Madrona.
The park was full of kids and Sadbh got the biggest smile on her face when we arrived.
Afterwards we headed to a local restaurant for breakfast and thankfully Sadbh was very happy to sit along side us and eat a second helping of breakfast.
She couldn’t get enough of Katie’s bacon and she really liked dipping toast into a little tub of jam. She ended up with more jam on her face than in her mouth.

Once we arrived home it was time for a bath, a nap and trach care. Sadbh did great until we were starting to secure her trach ties when she woke up and got fussy.
Everything worked out but Sadbh was wide-awake and had no intention of going back to sleep.
As soon as she was dressed and fed, we gathered all her equipment and headed out on the lake for a boat ride.

Things got very emotional at one point when Sadbh ran up and gave Nini a huge hug. I don’t think there was a dry eye on the boat at that moment.

After everyone settled down we tried capping her trach to see how she would react. Unfortunately, she started to struggle immediately so we gave her a break and put the Passy Muir Valve back on.
She loves wearing the PMV these days and has a huge smile when we bring it out.

Nini’s flight is at 6am so I will be taking her to the airport around 3:45. Since it’s so early, Nini and Sadbh said their good byes just as Sadbh was going to bed. Again it was very emotional.
We have been extremely fortunate to have Nini in our lives for the past six months. Her nurturing nature, her teaching abilities and her responsiveness to Sadbh has been a huge benefit to Sadbh’s wellbeing and development.
She will be greatly missed and we hope she comes back to visit in the very near future.

All the best,

Wayne, Katie and Sadbh.
