Tuesday was a little bit stressful. After Sadbh's vaccination shots on Monday, her temperature was a little bit higher than usual, however this was to be expected. Her heart rate was also quite elevated, and this was not expected.
Typically, while Sadbh is active, her heart rate can range from the 140's to the 150's, and while she's sleeping, her range is in the 110's to 130's.
Monday night and until around 5pm on Tuesday, her active range was in the 170's and her sleeping range was in the 140's to 150's.
We inspected the area around the injection site on each leg to see if there was any swelling or soreness and everything looked good.
A quick call to our Pediatrician's office provided some relief, however we were asked to keep an eye on it and call back if her rate exceeded 200.
Eventually, Katie gave Sadbh some Infants Tylenol and it seemed to do the trick.
Her airway also appeared to be quite dry, so we increased the airflow to her trach collar and added saline while suctioning her trach. This could also have lead to the higher heart rate.
Later that evening, her trach and airway had improved dramatically due to the additional attention we provided.
With all the visitors traveling here by plane, we have to be extremely careful that she does not get sick.
While it seems excessive, we have certain rules to ensure that Sadbh's room remains as sanitized as possible, and when people get to hold her, they have to be free of any illnesses and have to wash and sanitized their hands.
It's quite frustrating for both Katie and I, since we don't want to have a bubble baby, or offend people by asking them to clean up and for forth.
Katie's aunt and uncle arrived today, as did her cousin, Sarah and her fiancee. My cousins from Cork all arrived today, and everyone got to meet Sadbh.
You've got to wonder what's going through her mind when she meets all these great people.
I know for Katie and I, we are so grateful for all the love and support that each and everyone has given us over the past four months, and it's such an honor to finally get to show her off in person.
All the best,
Wayne, Katie and Sadbh.
