Sadbh slept right through
the night. My parents popped in to say goodbye just before 4am and even though
she was sound asleep it was a very sad farewell. Even Danielle, Sadbh’s nurse,
shared the emotion.
Sadbh slept until 7:45 and
as soon as she woke up Katie brought her upstairs to bed.
It was the first time in a
long time that it was just the three of us in the house and it seemed like we
were missing something. This feeling followed us throughout the entire day and
every time a plane flew by Sadbh would wave and say “good bye Granddad, good
bye Nana”.
After a quick breakfast we
headed downtown for a spot of shopping and Sadbh had a great time.
In one particular store she
could not stop trying on hats while dancing to the music. She was very
entertaining to everyone in the store.
She was getting tired by the
time we arrived home so we gave her a nice warm bath and got her ready for
trach care. Unfortunately she did not want to go to sleep so after a while both
Katie and I decided to manage trach care while she was awake. She did really
well and we were successful in getting everything completed.
We finally got Sadbh off to
sleep by going for a drive in the car and as soon as we were under way she was
out cold.
It was a very quiet day
overall and you could tell that Sadbh was sad due to absence of Nana and Gerdie.
I’ve said it before and I’ll
say it again, Sadbh has to be one of the luckiest people around to have such
amazing grandparents. They gave up another six months of their lives to help
take care of Sadbh. We are going to miss them something fierce.
All the best,
Wayne, Katie and Sadbh.
