Sadbh
woke up and peered over the rail of her cot. As soon as she saw me she asked if
Nana and Granddad were here. As soon as I said yes she gave me a huge smile and
asked if we could go wake them up.
I’ve
never seen Sadbh so eager to get out of bed before.
As
we headed out of her room she told me that she was going to wake them up by
going “boo!”
Unfortunately
for Sadbh, Granddad was already up and surprised her in the hallway. She was
not too sure how to react and all of a sudden got very shy.
Nevertheless
we headed on down to wake Nana up and Sadbh tippy toed very quietly up to her
in the bed. Again, Sadbh got very shy and it took a few moments for her to
build up the courage to give kisses and hugs.
Sadbh
very quickly over came her shyness when she spotted a few new cuddly toys and
next thing you know it was like Christmas morning. Sadbh had ten or so new
pairs of shoes and who knows how many new dresses. She could not wait to try
everything on and had a fantastic time modeling her new clothes and shoes.
The
morning’s excitement continued when nurse supervisor Caity stopped by to
evaluate Sadbh. Sadbh really likes Caity and enjoys her visits.
Later
on Ali-Baba and Kirk stopped by and Sadbh was in her element. She could not
believe the amount of attention she was receiving and had a wonderful time
playing and having her tea party.
Later
in the day we headed to Costco and even Sophia joined us for the journey.
Everything went well until I could not find Sadbh, my father and Sophia. A few
moments later I spotted my dad trying to get my attention. Sophia and Sadbh
were relatively close by but still not close enough. All of a sudden Sophia
started to shout for help as Sadbh was having difficulty breathing. I took off
running and quickly sanitized and then removed Sadbh’s trach cap. It turns out
that Sadbh was constipated and was in a great deal of discomfort. She was
frozen in that same spot for almost twenty minutes and would not budge since is
caused her so much pain. Eventually it became too much and as soon as she
started to cry she then found it hard to breathe.
It
was an extremely stressful situation for everyone.
Sadbh
was still in a great deal of discomfort by the time we got home and it took
quite some time before she was able to pass the mother load. She was still a
little tender but she was definitely over the worst of it.
We
brought this up with Helen tonight and she believes that Sadbh was dealing with
a viral infection that caused the discomfort when Sadbh tired to poop.
Hopefully she is over the worst of it and will feel much better in the morning.
Trach
care was very easy this evening as Sadbh passed out shortly after we got her
set up. She was so exhausted from her exciting day and I’m sure that she will
have another fantastic day tomorrow.
All
the best,
Wayne,
Katie and Sadbh.
