Sadbh had a new nurse on Monday night. Fortunately, this nurse has a baby two days younger than Sadbh, so she completely understands the importance of routine and consistency.
Sadbh had a fantastic nights sleep and even impressed her new nurse.
The morning was spent either snoozing or playing with Granddad.
Katie brought one of her colleague’s home for lunch and to hang out with Sadbh.
Joni has been very supportive since learning about Sadbh’s condition and had met her a few months back.
Sadbh had a great time playing and interacting with Joni, and they even got a chance to Skype with the rest of my family back in Cork.
As soon as I got home from work, I was greeted by a very tired Sadbh. My father timed things just right.
Without hesitation, we started out trach care routine and got Sadbh into her bath as soon as possible.
Despite being tired, Sadbh always enjoys her bath. Lately she’s discovered that splashing is a lot of fun.
As soon as she was done in her bath, I handed her off to my father so he could dry her in her nice fluffy towel.
As per the usual custom, my father was seated in the nice rocker chair with Sadbh wrapped in her towel on his lap, and within moments he could feel his lap getting nice and warm. I suppose it’s always best to empty your bladder prior to going to sleep.
Trach care was very straight forward this evening since Sadbh was in a very deep sleep. Once we were done with care, I moved her into her cot and she slept for a couple of hours, with her heart rate often dropping down into the 90’s. Typically when she sleeps she’s baselines between 112 and 125, so it was good to see her get a much deserved sleep.
To make sure she has another full nights sleep, we started to make noise around 7:30 in an effort to wake her up.
After she was fed, she joined us at the dinner table while we had dinner.
It’s quiet obvious that she’s ready to experience solid food as she tries to grab everyone’s food from their plates.
To prevent a disaster, we broke out her new Cookie Monster toy that my brother and wife sent over.
Yesterday when we showed her this new toy, she wasn’t too keen and appeared to be afraid of it.
Today was a very different story and she couldn’t keep her hands off it.
It seems she likes the Cookie Monster as much as he likes cookies.
The rest of the evening was spent playing on the floor mat, and working on teaching her how to roll from her back to her stomach. It was pure fun and she was having a ball.
Tomorrow she has a follow up appointment with her Occupational and Physical Therapist, Robin at Children’s, so we hope to learn about introducing solid foods and how that will work with her trach.
All the best,
Wayne, Katie and Sadbh.
