Sadbh had another great nights sleep and didn’t wake up until six.
The nurse that we had on shift last night was the nurse from Children’s and we had worked with her since August.
Since she had not seen Sadbh in quite some time, and since Sadbh was asleep throughout the night, she decided to hang around for another hour to play after she had woken up.
Sadbh was in a fantastic mood throughout the day. Non-stop smiles and lots of playing with Granddad.
By the time I got home, Sadbh was fast asleep. Our day nurse was worried that Sadbh’s secretions were thick and explained that her blood oxygen level had been in the low 90’s for the past few hours.
Considering this, I figured it would be best to suction her trach, despite being fast asleep.
As soon as I inserted the catheter into her trach, her eyes shot open and she gave me the biggest smile ever.
With that, she started kicking her legs in an excited manner and it was clear that she was happy to see me home.
This totally made my day.
After suctioning her trach and changing her oximeter sensor around, her blood oxygen level jumped back up to 100. Everything was alright.
The rest of the evening was spent playing and since we had missed the window of opportunity for trach care earlier on, we had to postpone it until 9pm after dinner.
During dinner we fed her some pureed pairs again and this time she was a little bit more interested. Only slightly though.
Bath time was a lot of fun and it seemed that she had way too much energy to go to sleep.
Once she was bundled in her pajamas and swaddle, it didn’t take long for her to fall into a deep sleep.
Trach care was very easy and as soon as we were done, we moved her upstairs to our bedroom since we do not have nurses until Sunday night.
Tomorrow will be a busy day for Sadbh as she has a couple of doctor appointments.
Let’s hope she gets a good nights rest.
All the best,
Wayne, Katie and Sadbh.
