Sadbh’s update – day 177

I hope I’m not jinxing it, but Sadbh has been sleeping so well through the night lately.
She had another great night sleeping until after 6am. Let's hope she does the same tonight.

This morning she had her appointment with Robin who is her occupational and physical therapist at Children’s.
She was very pleased with Sadbh’s development and gave Katie a lot of pointers on further development.
They also discussed introducing solid foods and even tried with pear sauce.

Back in May, shortly after Sadbh received her trach, Robin documented Sadbh's ability to breast feed, despite having a trach. She was impressed with how Sadbh continues to breast feed without any issue and video recorded her feeding again today. She is a total superstar in more ways than one.
Even our nurses are impressed with Sadbh's ability to breast feed while having a trach, it's very uncommon for trach babies to breast feed.

After her appointment with Robin, Sadbh meet with Carol who is her respiratory  therapist, and Carol modified the Passy Muir valve that we received during her visit two weeks ago.

We tested out the Passy Muir valve last weekend and Sadbh seemed to struggle with exhaling. By punching a hole in the valve, this should reduce the pressure on her airway allowing her to gradually get used to the air flowing up and out through her mouth and nose.

The rest of the afternoon was spent playing with Granddad and by the time I got home from work, it was time to get ready for trach care.
Again this process went well as she was quite exhausted, however by the time we were done, she decided that she had enough sleep and wanted to play some more.

I really enjoy spending time playing with Sadbh, and I especially enjoy making her laugh. We had a ball hanging out and once Katie arrived, Sadbh was ready for her dinner.

Later in the evening we fed her some more pears, this time it was fresh pears from our garden that my father had pureed.
It ended up being a messy ordeal, and unfortunately Sadbh was not very impressed.
We have to be very careful not to get food in or around her trach, but I’m sure that she will be eating solids in no time.

Take care,

Wayne, Katie and Sadbh.
