Sadbh’s update – March 27th, 2012

Sadbh slept great and did not wake until shortly after 5am.
Just before she woke up, Larissa noticed that Sadbh was making the baby sign for banana while in her sleep.
Katie came down to feed Sadbh, and afterwards she fell back to sleep until 7:50.

Destiny was working today, and Sadbh was delighted to see her arrive. It’s playtime and Sadbh had a lot of fun with both Destiny and Nini.
It turns out that Sadbh has quite the appetite today, and at one stage she even tries to eat Nini’s arms.

During playtime today, she stood by herself for 5 seconds, so we know it’s not going to be long before she is walking.

Nini noticed that Sadbh kept looking down the stairs today, waiting for Granddad to come. Even though she is so young, it’s obvious that she misses Grandad Gerry. We all do.

Ali-Baba came over to play and help with trach care, and Sadbh was over the moon when she saw her.
Trach care was very straightforward and Sadbh slept for almost an hour and a half afterwards.

She was starving when she woke up, and downed a whole bottle of milk in one go.
Nini is now the new cook at the Green Spoon Restaurant, and fresh on the menu today was spinach with mushrooms and potatoes. Sadbh gobbled it right up and when she was done, she was still hungry. It was time for some chicken and sweet potatoes, and afterwards she even had room for apple yogurt.

By the time I got home from work, Sadbh had been awake for a while and was running on fumes. We tried to get her to take a nap, but she was not having any of it.
She was having way too much fun, and taking a nap was the last thing that she wanted to do. After an hour or so, she had no choice but to surrender, and it was off to bed for her.

She slept for 40 minutes and it was perfect timing for dinner. Her appetite was still ferocious and she devoured everything that was put in front of her.

Since she has surgery tomorrow morning, we had to give her a bath tonight, using a chlorhexidine gluconate soap (CHG). This soap is used to cleanse her skin of any germs prior to going into surgery.
It is very potent stuff and she was not happy receiving such a thorough scrubbing.

When it came time for bed, she was exhausted and passed out without any difficulty.

Tomorrow is going to be a very busy day, so we hope she get’s a good night sleep.
Her check in time tomorrow at Children’s is 9:25am, and her surgery is scheduled an hour later.
Katie and I have carried out extensive research on Botox and this procedure, and we have made the decision to go through with it.
Of course, there is always risk, however we have confidence in Dr. Inglis and feel that this will benefit Sadbh in many ways.

Take care,

Wayne, Katie and Sadbh.
