Sadbh slept upstairs last night since we did not have a nurse, and she was a little fussier than usual. She woke up shortly after 11pm, and again at 3am. I woke up to Sadbh tapping me on the shoulder, and it was way too early for playtime.
She had a quick feed, and was bundled back to bed where she slept until 5:30.
Later in the morning, she had an appointment with Dr. Cavanaugh, her cranial sacral specialist.
He felt that her diaphragm was tight, and attributed it to her recent cold. He also commented that the left side of her neck was tight, likely due to the fact that she favors that side to sleep. He treated her chest, back and neck and she should feel more comfortable and rest better now.
Ali-Baba, Nini and I had a training session scheduled at Children’s for 1pm. Sadbh was only starting to fall asleep for trach care at 12:30, so I stayed behind to help Katie. Ali-Baba and Nini headed off for training. We were hoping to have trach care taken care of earlier in the day, however Sadbh dictates her schedule, and we simply have to follow along.
Trach care was easy enough, and Sadbh slept for almost an hour afterwards.
Shortly after waking up, it was time for something to eat, and then it was time for play with Katie and myself.
She was having a ball, and when she thought things could not get any better, along came Cormac, Clodagh, Suzie, Conor and Aoife.
She had a great time with her friends. All four kids were sitting on the couch while their proud mommies took photos, when all of a sudden Cormac started to cry. Sadbh was intrigued at first, but then started to cry, until she looked over at Conor and noticed that he was smiling and having a good time. With that, she figured that things were not too bad, so she decided to smile along with Conor.
Sadbh was very tired after her friends left, so it was time for nap.
When she woke up, we figured it was time to test her Passy Muir Valve to see how she would manage it, and she did better than expected.
She did not tolerate it for long, but she did make some sounds through her mouth. She even made the baby sign for more at one stage, but eventually she got tired of it so we called it quits for the night.
She took a couple of shaky steps today, and impressed the socks off of us. That said, we should start to scale back on trying to get her to walk, because as soon as she does, we are going to be chasing her all over the house.
Have a great weekend,
Wayne, Katie and Sadbh.
