Sadbh’s update – September 5th 2014

Sadbh slept well and managed having her trach capped for forty minutes before pulling it off.
I took over from Danielle at six and Sadbh slept on for another hour and a half. She was in a wonderful mood at first but ended up being very cranky and would not do anything asked of her.

We had an appointment with Dr. Cavanaugh first thing so this made getting ready and out of the house quite difficult. Thankfully she was good as gold at the doctors office and she allowed Stephen to give her a complete tune up. He could tell that she needed a lot of work due to stress from her surgery and immediately afterwards Sadbh was extremely tired.

I had a very busy day scheduled, as I had to meet a plumber due to a blocked sewer pipe. Sadbh was fascinated with how the plumber snaked the sewer and she could not keep her eyes off the monitor when he sent the camera down to look at what blocking things up. At one point I joked asking if we might see one of her cartoon characters down there and she turned and laughed.

As soon as we were done dealing with that mess we headed home as Sadbh had an appointment with her nurse supervisor, Caity. Sadbh was delighted to see Caity and she told her a bunch of ghost stories. It was fun to listen to Sadbh’s imagination run wild and it seems that she is quite the storyteller.

We had originally scheduled a play date with Conor and Aibhin this morning but due to the sewer problem we had to reschedule. Aoife and the two kids stopped by in the early evening and Sadbh was over the moon. The three kids got busy playing in the garden. Unfortunately, every time Aibhin picked a toy up Sadbh would take it away from her. She really needs to learn how to share.

By dinnertime Sadbh was so tired. She had a huge appetite and devoured her food. Trach care was easy and soon Sadbh was fast asleep in bed.

Our weekend night nurse failed to recertify her license on time and had to scramble to get it done today. She just about made it but ended up not getting enough rest so she had to cancel tonight’s shift. As a result I will be spending the night looking after Sadbh.

All the best,

Wayne, Katie and Sadbh
