Sadbh was up bright and early after a good night
sleep. I popped in just before seven with Cillian in my arms and both Sadbh and
Jirapa were thrilled when they saw him.
As Sadbh is getting closer to starting school, this
morning we had an appointment with the Seattle school district to assess
Sadbh’s needs and to determine what services she will require.
The assessment consisted of a series of tests in physical
therapy, occupational therapy, speech and psychology.
She was a superstar and was not intimidated by having
to sit alone with each of the specialists as they took turns testing her. Later
she asked us if she could go back.
She passed each of the tests with flying colors and
actually scored well ahead of her age development on most.
As expected, she does not require any assistance for
any other needs other than her trach.
Because of this she does not qualify for pre-school
services from the school district. They advised us to follow up with the school
district this time next year to prepare for enrollment in kindergarten.
They did feel that her voice quality could possibly
be strengthened and that we should work with her ENT specialist on the
appropriate next steps.
After Sadbh’s appointment we had a doctors
appointment for Cillian.
Since the attention was now on Cillian Sadbh was
fairly bored by this so she managed to snag Katie’s phone and got to watch some
TV while waiting for the doctor to do her thing.
She was happy to leave the doctors office and was
excited to be heading to the airport to pick up Katie’s father who is visiting
for the weekend.
Once home it was time for Sadbh to have a bath and
then trach care. She was getting hungry but before dinner she snuggled up to
Poppy and listened as he read her a few books. She was delighted with herself
and really enjoyed how Poppy read to her.
Sadbh’s nurse called in sick today so after dinner I
moved all her equipment upstairs to her bedroom that is next door to ours.
Sadbh was so happy to be sleeping upstairs and when it came time to go to bed
she did not need much convincing.
All
the best,
Wayne, Katie, Sadbh and Cillian
