Sadbh's update - day 30

After all the excitement yesterday, Sadbh had a great night's sleep. According to her nurse Sara, she only woke up a couple of times and once she got her binky, she was back to sleep in no time. Very different from the previous few nights.

Today was a very good day and Sadbh spent a lot of it awake and quite alert. Her pain medication was scaled back from Morphine to Tylenol and she did not really show any serious signs of discomfort.

Since she's no longer on the ventilator, it is not necessary to keep her swaddled up so tightly, and as a result, she's fun to watch as she waves and punches her little arms about.

Without the breathing tube, she now has the freedom, more or less, to do the things that regular babies do and it's great to see that happen at long last.

While this progress is very positive, it's also very bitter sweet. Leaving Sadbh behind each and every day is heartbreaking and emotionally exhausting. We know things will improve, however we at still at least 7 weeks away from getting her home with us.

Take care,

Wayne, Katie and Sadbh.
