Sadbh's update - day 33

Hope you are all having a good weekend.

A big milestone was reached today. Occupational Therapy & Physical Therapy (OT/PT) came by this afternoon to start work on training for oral feeding. The device they use is a modified pacifier with a feeding tube that penetrates the tip and that's connected to a syringe on the other end. The procedure is to fill the syringe with 5ml of milk, and insert the binky (pacifier) into Sadbh's mouth. With that, Sadbh should start sucking on the binky and the objective is to see if she can swallow correctly, or to see if there was a potential for her to asphyxiate.

The process for oral feeding, while protecting her airway is to suck, swallow and breath. Sadbh nailed it first go. The OT/PT specialist figured that she might be ready for oral feeding part time by Monday.

All the best for now,

Wayne, Katie and Sadbh.
