Sadbh slept great through the entire
night and did not budge until 6am. She joined us in bed and after a quick
snack, she was out for the count for another two hours.
She only wanted to be with Katie when
she woke up, and at one point she gave be a deliberate slap in the head.
Eventually, she gave me the baby sign
for sorry and then told me that she loved me.
Sadbh had a great morning and got to
watch the most recent edition of Baby Signing Times on the DVD as she had breakfast
and right afterwards she got some serious play time in with Katie and myself.
Sadbh even got to Skype with my folks
back home in Cork and she was thrilled to see them.
It had been a while since we used her
Passy Muir Valve successfully, so we tried it out today. She did ok for a short
while, but when she decided that she had enough, she pulled it right off.
Eventually she started to get tired,
so we got her ready for her bath as my parents watch on.
It was time to say good-bye to my
parents as soon as Sadbh was dried off, and within no time she was fast asleep
and ready for trach care.
Everything went well and she slept on
for two hours.
The weather wasn’t so good today, and
since the West Seattle street fair was on, we headed over to meet up with a few
friends.
Sadbh had a great time hanging out
with Oisin, Aoife and Ronan.
The street fair was great and Sadbh
could not believe the amount of dogs she saw. It was almost like a street fair
for dogs.
She even came across a couple of
chickens and was extremely brave. I had to hold her back as she tried
desperately to touch them.
During dinner, Sadbh really liked the
music and started shaking her head to the beat. It was entertaining to watch
and I couldn’t believe that she did not give herself a headache in the
meantime.
Earlier on, Martin was asking me if
Sadbh ever pulls at her trach. She used to do it a few months back, usually in
an effort to get attention, however she hasn’t done it for a long time.
As we were winding down after dinner,
Sadbh frightened the hell out of us as she almost pulled her trach out.
Thankfully her trach ties were on very securely, but she did manage to take yet
another 10 years off both Katie and my lives.
She did it again as we left the
restaurant so we both had to have a serious talk with her to explain the
consequences if her trach came out.
We decided to try out her Passy Muir
Valve when we got home and at first Sadbh did not want anything to do with it.
Eventually she started playing with
the modified PMV, and Katie slipped the non-modified one on over her trach.
She did not flinch and started to
make beautiful sounds. Obviously she liked the sound of her own voice, as she
continued to make sounds for the next thirty minutes or so. It was incredible
and we ended up recording a bunch of videos of it.
She even had a lot of secretions
coming out of her mouth, which usually comes directly out of her trach and into
her artificial nose.
It was a pure magic moment for the
three of us and the hope is that she will tolerate her Passy Muir Valve on a
daily basis so she can get used to the air flow though her vocal cords and so
she can start to work on speech development.
My favorite video is video number
VID00021.
All the best,
Wayne, Katie and Sadbh.
