Sadbh’s update – May 19th 2014

Sadbh wore her trach cap for over eight and a half hours over a few sessions throughout the night. Helen greeted me with a huge smile when I took over this morning and she was ecstatic with the breakthrough. I was delighted with the news and was surprised to see that she was still wearing it.

Sadbh slept in quite late and woke up shortly before nine. She was in a great mood and was eager to put her fifth sticker on the board. This meant that she would receive a gift and she could not wait until we headed out to get it.

Sadbh lucked out and ended up with three gifts. The first was “Pinkie Pie”, a little pony, a toy motorcycle and a toy pickup truck (which is actually mine). She would have been very happy if I bought everything she wanted but she had to settle for three items.

On the way home we stopped off at Trader Joes for the shopping and Sadbh insisted on bringing her new pony with her. She held onto it so tight so as not to lose it and she was very proud showing it off to everyone she met. It was so funny and she received quite a lot of attention throughout the store.

Things only got more exciting when she found Kangaroo Joey.

At the checkout she noticed that the shopkeeper had a big scrape on his arm. She asked what caused his “owie” and then pulled up the leg of her trousers to show off the “owie” on her knee from when she tripped over Sophia on Alki Beach nearly a month ago. Obviously by now her knee is well healed but she still felt it was important to show off her wounds.

The rest of our day was great and Sadbh had so much fun playing with her new toys. At one point she put the toy motorcycle between her legs and started driving it around the house. It measures less than an inch and a half tall.

We managed trach care at bedtime tonight and when we finished Sadbh was a zombie. It took some effort to get her to sleep and unfortunately she would not wear her trach cap. We tried putting it on an hour later but she was struggling to breathe so we removed it to allow her to fell into a deeper sleep.
