Sadbh
slept in until 8 and even then she did not get out of bed for another half
hour. She had a great night sleep and Helen managed to cap her trach for just
over four hours throughout the night.
Sadbh’s
airway sounded congested after she finally got up so after breakfast I gave her
a saline nebulizer and read her a book while the vapors loosened everything up.
She had a lot of secretions and I used up four suction catheters clearing out
her trach. Thankfully this did the trick and she was good to go immediately
afterwards.
We
both had a very good day and it went by so fast. Mommy was home before we knew
what time it was and soon afterwards it was time for trach care.
Sadbh
went to bed without any difficulty tonight as she was completely wiped out.
We
are in the process of submitting our external appeal to overturn the decision
by Sadbh’s secondary insurance provider, Aetna, for declining home care nursing
coverage. Over the last few days Katie and I considered how fortunate it was that
Sadbh’s primary insurance provider, United Heath Care, was still covering all
costs considering the appeals and fights that we had to deal with last year.
Well,
today we received notification that United Health Care is also declining home
care nursing coverage and in addition our nursing agency will not be providing
staff after this next weekend until the issue is resolved.
It
seems that as long as Sadbh requires home care nurses we will always have a
fight on our hands to get insurance coverage.
Three years ago today Sadbh got to leave Children's Hospital and was able to go home for the first time.
All
the best,
Wayne,
Katie and Sadbh.
