Sadbh’s update – July 13th 2014

Sadbh had an interesting night. According to Danielle she needed quite a bit of suctioning and was under some distress at one stage. When Katie took over at 6am she noticed that Sadbh’s mist collar was attached incorrectly and that it had a triple knot rather than using the snap fitting. It took Katie almost twenty minutes to untie the knot when she went to remove the mist collar and in the case of an emergency this would have proven to be disastrous. We plan to have a serious conversation tonight when Danielle arrives to discuss.

Sadbh had a great morning and after a saline nebulizer and numerous suctions she was ready to get the day started.
We were planning on heading over to our friends to watch the World Cup finals so Katie and I got trach care out of the way just before we headed out.
Sadbh was delighted to be heading to her friends and apart from a few little fights over sharing toys they all had a great time.
The highlight of the day was when the kids got to play with the garden hose out in the back garden of Michael and Roseanne’s house.
Katie and I gave in to our reservations and let Sadbh join in on the fun. It was extremely stressful since we did not want her to get her trach and trach ties wet but the fun she had made it all worthwhile. She had a smile on her face that stretched from ear to ear.
When she finally finished up we had to change out the Polymem dressing from around her trach and thankfully she allowed us to do so without putting up a fuss.

Sadbh had about as much fun as she could handle and when we left she soon fell asleep. She was out for the entire trip home and woke up just in time for dinner.

She had a good evening but when it came time for bed it took forever to get her to sleep but thankfully she finally fell asleep just before Danielle arrived.

For the last few months Katie and I have been discussing surgical options to resolve her vocal cord issue. As we allow Sadbh to do things that push our comfort levels we realize how much she has been missing out as we shelter her in the effort to protect her trach and her from catching colds and the likes.

All the best,

Wayne, Katie and Sadbh
