Surprisingly, Sadbh slept great through the night and didn’t need suctioning until she woke up at 4:30am Friday morning.
As soon as she was fed, Sadbh started a coughing fit and Katie quickly started to suction her trach.
The first pass pulled out a thick mucus plug that would have certainly blocked her trach and cut off her airflow. Thankfully Katie had reacted in time.
After Katie cleared the plug, she suctioned a couple of more times and noticed that Sadbh’s secretions had returned to normal.
It definitely sounds like Sadbh is fighting something and for right now it does not sound like it’s a serious cold, possibly just a simple case of the sniffles. However, a simple case of the sniffles can have devastating results if not monitored.
The rest of the morning was spent playing and napping and later on, Katie’s mum stopped by for a visit.
Later on, Suzie arrived with Clodagh and Cormac and Sadbh had a great time playing with both kids.
We definitely have to watch over Sadbh a lot closer as Katie caught her trying to pull poor little Cormac’s pants off.
A few weeks back, Suzie and Derek received training at Children’s hospital in trach care and how to suction.
Friday, both Suzie and Derek got a chance to suction on Sadbh for the very first time. Both were obviously nervous, however they did a fantastic job.
All the best,
Wayne, Katie and Sadbh.
