Sadbh’s update – day 204

Sadbh had a good nights sleep and slept until 4:45am. According to our night nurse, Sadbh broke some serious wind and this caused her to awaken. You could say, she farted herself awake.

Her schedule is definitely changing and rather than taking a number of short naps throughout the day, she is napping less often and sleeping twice as long.

Today was a gorgeous day and my father and the day nurse took Sadbh for a nice long walk through the neighborhood.

By the time I was due home from work, poor Sadbh was exhausted and in an effort to get trach care in on this cycle, my father had to keep her awake as long as possible.
Traffic was terrible due to an accident and I even had to jump into the car-pool lane to circumnavigate the back up.
As soon as I got in the door, I was greeted with a huge smile from Sadbh as she was just about to get into her bath.

Once she was done with her bath, we quickly bundled her up into her swaddle and off she went to sleep.

As she was settling into a deep sleep, I took the opportunity to have a quick chat with the nurse about falling asleep while on duty the morning before.
Fortunately she didn’t deny it, and acknowledged that she needed to stay awake going forward.
I explained that this is a one off and we will have her removed from Sadbh’s care if it happens again.

I’ve mentioned before how our medical supply company constantly messes up our supply orders. When we received last weeks order, we noticed that quite a few of the important items were either wrong or not included whatsoever.

We had orders 2 boxes of Polymem dressing for the area around the stoma. Rather than receiving 2 boxes, we received 2 individual pieces, and we are still waiting for the balance.
Part of the order was for a box of Posey trach ties, however they sent us Posey ties for the oximeter probe. After pointing out this mistake, they sent us a package of Posey trach ties, for an adult. I seriously hope that she will be cured of this soon so we won’t have to use them when she’s older.

And finally, rather than ship us her monthly supply of 300 8Fr suction catheters, they sent 12Fr suction catheters, which are for adult trachs.
I’m so glad that we keep our supplies well stocked up, as it would be terrible if we were down to the last item only to realize that the replacement shipment is wrong and will not work.

Take care,

Wayne, Katie and Sadbh.
