Sadbh’s update – day 264 December 31, 2011

Sadbh had a great nights sleep for a change, and didn’t wake up until after 4:30am.

Most of our friends are out of town this weekend, so Katie and I decided to have a lazy New Years Eve.

After a nice long lie in with Sadbh, we headed down and made breakfast and played until she was tired enough for trach care.
Trach care is so much easier when she’s in a deep sleep.

After a nice long sleep, we bundled her up for a walk up to Capitol Hill. Katie had to run to the post office to retrieve a package, so I got Sadbh’s equipment ready. Sadbh sat patiently in her stroller seat and looked so cozy and cute.

Just before we headed out, we Skyped with my parents and they got to see Sadbh all bundled up in her stroller, and they got to see the lovely Christmas gifts that Sadbh received from her cousins in Singapore.

It was a gorgeous day, and the walk through the neighborhood was perfect. Capitol hill was buzzing with activity in preparation for the New Year’s celebrations and Sadbh slept for most of the walk.
She was awake by the time we were heading home, so we repositioned her stroller seat so she was facing forward, this way she could check out what was going on.

Katie received a call from her sister in the morning and we were delighted to hear that she and her family were coming up from Portland to visit us for the evening and to ring in the New Year.

Sadbh was so excited when Hayato, Kaito and Lulu arrived as she now had all these children to play with.
Kristi and Yuki have such wonderful and caring children and they were so good to Sadbh.
Everyone had a great time, however eventually the excitement exhausted Sadbh and it was time for bed.

As we rang in the New Year, our neighborhood shook with the explosions from fireworks. I was worried that this would wake Sadbh up, however she was sound asleep and her heart rate stayed at a very relaxed rate.

2011 was an amazing year on so many different levels. There were emotional highs and lows, we accomplished a lot, but had to make some difficult decisions. That said I believe we have come out on top and learned how fortunate we are to have such a fantastic family and group of friends.

Here’s to an even better 2012.

All the best,

Wayne, Katie and Sadbh.
