Sadbh’s update – day 274 January 10th, 2012

Sadbh slept great until 2:30am, and just lay there awake for a short while. Her night nurse, Larissa, was able to get her back to sleep without any difficulty, and she slept soundly until 4:30am, then it was time for breakfast and afterwards, she was back to sleep.

Obviously she’s catching up on her sleep as she was out like a light until 8:45.

Peggy stopped by to help my father with trach care and afterwards Sadbh got to sleep for another hour or so.

At this stage, I think she’s getting more sleep than everyone else in the house combined.

Overall, she had a really good day and only had a few coughing fits.
We are so relieved that she is over the worst of her cold, and hope that she doesn’t have to go through that again anytime soon.

By bed time, she was wrecked tired and was fast asleep by the time we had her changed and into her bed clothes. Since she was hooked up to the oximeter, we could tell that she was in a much deeper sleep than usual and her heart rate kept dipping below 90, triggering the alarm every 10 seconds or so.
Little does she know that her low heart rate is causing both Katie and mine to soar quite high.

She turned 9 months today, and considering everything that she’s been through, it often feels like 9 years. That said, it’s incredible how this experience has brought us all so much closer together.

All the best,

Wayne, Katie and Sadbh.
