Sadbh’s update – April 10th, 2012

Happy Birthday Sadbh!!

Sadbh had a fantastic night sleep and Larissa did a fantastic job watching over her.
Katie and I popped in when we arrived home from the concert, and she looked so comfortable.
She woke up at 5, and played with Larissa for 30 minutes or so, before Katie was called down for breakfast.
As soon as Larissa’s shift was over, Katie and Sadbh came upstairs, and we all slept in until 9.

Sadbh was in a great mood today, and even though she did not realize that it was her birthday, she had a brilliant time.
The day started off with lots of hugs and kisses from Katie and myself.

Just before breakfast, it was time to open a few of her birthday presents. She loved the gifts that she received, and had great fun trying to open the packaging.

Later in the morning, she got to test out her Passy Muir Valve in the garden, while Nini distracted her with bubbles. She tolerated the PMV fine, and even walked around the back yard while wearing it.

By the time she was done, she was due for her nap.
Trach care was very straight forward, as she had fallen into a deep sleep.

When she woke from her nap, it was time to meet with our friend Helen and Ali-Baba for her birthday lunch.
Along the way, we called my brother to wish him a happy birthday, since he shares the same birthday as Sadbh.
After Sadbh was done with her lunch, it was time for her birthday cake. Katie and Nini had baked a carrot cupcake for Sadbh using a family recipe (Carol’s Carrot Cake), and she seemed to really enjoy all the attention with the singing and all.

Later in the afternoon, she was in for another big treat, and by the time she arrived at her destination, she was fast asleep. We were at the airport to pick up my parents who had just flown in from Cork, and when my father opened Sadbh’s door to peek in at her, she opened her eyes, and immediately gave him a huge smile.

Once we arrived home, Sadbh got to unwrap a bunch of gifts that my parents had brought with them, and she also got to eat a chocolate Easter Egg from my brother and his wife.
She even got to blow out another birthday candle, and she couldn’t get enough of the carrot cupcake.

It was a very busy day, and we all had a great time.

I think back to the last 12 months and think of the roller coaster ride that we have all been on, and how incredibly strong our little girl is.
There have been moments of utter despair and frustration, but we realize that our situation could be a lot worse, and are very grateful that we have such a wonderful daughter.
Even though there have been times where we feel like our world has fallen down around us, we have always bounced back and have this happy, easy going and beautiful little girl in our lives.
She is the world to us and we are so lucky to have her.

We also consider ourselves so lucky to have a fantastic group of family and friends that have provided us with the encouragement and support to keep positive and strong throughout the past year.

Thank you all for the continued love and support.

Love,

Wayne, Katie and Sadbh.
