Sadbh’s update – August 25th, 2012

Sadbh spent most of the night with us and I spent the night sleeping on a strip of the bed that measured no more than 2 inches from the edge. It seemed that every time I would try to gain any extra room, I would be met with a kick or a shove from Sadbh.

She made up for it when I woke up and she leaned over, gave me a kiss and make the baby sign for “I love you daddy”.

Sadbh had a big breakfast and watched her baby signing DVD for a short while. She eventually got bored of the DVD and could not wait to read the new books that she received from Pat. One of the books is about farm animals and it includes a panel that plays the sounds of each of the animals that are featured in the book.
Sadbh loved it and could not put it down.

Trach care came early today as Sadbh was very tired.
She was very restless during trach care and I had to work hard to keep the trach in while Katie cleaned around her neck and stoma site.
After she settled down she managed to sleep on for an hour and a half and woke up in a great mood.

The boat was fixed yesterday and since the weather was fantastic we headed out with Neil and Pat for a couple of hours.
Sadbh was delighted to be on the boat even though she had to wear her life jacket. Once we dropped anchor down by Sewart Park, Sadbh got to run around the boat and play with her toys. She waved at all the other boaters and had the biggest grin on her face.
It was a fun way to spend the day and she did not want to leave when we docked the boat back in the marina.

Later in the evening we headed over to Theresa and Orla’s for dinner and Sadbh got to hang out with all her friends.
As soon as she met Cormac, she immediately tried her best to get a kiss from him. He was obviously playing hard to get, but that did not deter Sadbh. She was more determined than ever and eventually succeeded.
It was a hectic evening for all the kids and most of them ended up staying up long after their bed times.
They all did great and at one point they had Gerry pulling them around the garden in a red wagon.

Sadbh did start to get very tired towards the end and at one point got very cranky.
Her Godfather Derek’s sister, Sandra, was visiting from back in Ireland and Sadbh accidently head butted her. She made up for it moments later when she blew Sandra a few kisses.

Sadbh’s eyes shut tight as soon as she was in her car seat and she slept soundly all the way home.
I’m hoping that she sleeps much better tonight and stays in her cot. That way Katie and I should get a somewhat decent night sleep.

All the best,

Wayne, Katie and Sadbh.
